Do you sell “seconds”?
Yes, I sometimes have a ‘bargain corner’ shelf in my studio for pieces with slight flaws, or test pieces.
Do you teach workshops?
Yes, I teach classes at Bondi Pavilion Clay Studio. My focus is on teaching foundation techniques that help each student connect to their creative voice.
Do you make lighting or wall sconces?
While I do occasionally make lighting and wall sconces, it is not my primary focus. However, I would be open to a collaboration involving the ceramic elements if the project aligns with the style of my other work.
Is all your work handmade by you?
Yes, all my pieces are handmade by me, occasionally calling on my family to assist when I need another pair of hands! I use both the pottery wheel and hand-building techniques to create my work.
How long does it take you to make a piece?
On average about 6-8 weeks. In the first stage the clay is malleable and can be manipulated into shape. Later it becomes leatherhard and is refined further, usually over a few sessions. The completed pieces require around two weeks of slow drying before they can undergo kiln firings. It can take significantly longer if I am developing a new process or using a new material. My current works involve adding materials to the clay and these require extensive testing before creating the new forms.
Do you have other works for sale?
Yes, I have other work available for sale in my personal studio, as well some pieces on display at the studio I co-manage at Bondi Pavilion.
What type of clay do you use ?
I use a range of clays from fine white porcelain to course-textured stoneware. Most of my work is fired to 1260 degrees celsius in an oxidation kiln.
